Santa Cruz Pride 2015 – Family, Friends and Lots of Love

 santa-cruz-pride

Heidi here riding high from today’s Pride 2015 in Santa Cruz. What an amazing day it was.

Our support group walked in the parade for the third year in a row. Every year we walk I am just in awe of our LGBTQ community and its allies. Such love, support and acceptance – present in everyone and the feeling of community that’s generated by this amazing group of people.

We had more than 20 people walk from our group. A few of those were new parents to our support group (brave souls!). They had many questions and I’m betting they were feeling a little scared to be out in public. I kept telling them wait until you see the support you’ll feel as you walk down the street.

And supported we were.

Lots of clapping, waving and hooting. We know as parents of trans kids that we are making the honest, loving and best choice to support our kids. Even though we know it, it doesn’t mean it’s easy. In fact, it’s terrifying at times. So to see the community support us as parents was just amazing. I swear this high will last me for months.

Every year we have people come up to us and thank us for being here. Today we had a gentlemen come and tell us he so appreciates that we are here. He is transgender and said the support we give to the kids is is so needed. It makes a huge difference in coping.

I have always said that if we just reached one person and help them to support their child than we have done our job.

Looking forward to next year!

Here are some fun photos from the day.
